The Castle in our Backyard on sale now

The Friends of Maungawhau are promoting The Castle in our Backyard, a children's book about Maungakiekie written by Ngāti Whātua heritage adviser Malcolm Paterson.

Suitable for 8-12 year-olds, this engaging book tells the story of Tui and Jennifer as they travel back into history - meeting the Goddess of Fire, Maori tribes, Chinese gardeners, Sir John Logan Campbell, and the tourists of today.

The Castle in our Backyard is entertaining and imaginative. It's a great educational resource and would make an awesome gift. The messages about keeping history alive through storytelling and imagination are relevant to Maungawhau too.

Your purchase helps the Friends. The Castle in our Backyard is available in English or Te Reo versions for $20 inc GST. Pickup or delivery from central Auckland, or $5 extra for packaging and postage. Cash or direct credit accepted.
